First Circular

We are pleased to announce the 9th International Kimberlite Conference (9IKC), which will be held at Johann Wolfgang Goethe-University, Frankfurt, Germany, between 10-15 August 2008.

The conference continues the series of regular events in 4-5 year intervals with the beginnings in Cape Town in 1973. Keeping in the tradition of previous conferences, the meeting is intended to bring together the academic and exploration communities to foster exchange of new results in research on kimberlites and diamonds and advances in exploration techniques.

Conference themes will be centred around all aspects of kimberlites and diamonds with emphasis on the origin, evolution and emplacement of kimberlites and related magmas, cratonic roots, exploration strategies and techniques, target area selection, diamonds and diamond mining, and sustainable development.

Field trips are planned to the kimberlites in Finland, the alkaline complexes of the Kola peninsula, the Eifel maars, the diatremes of the Hegau, the carbonatites and related rocks of the Kaiserstuhl, the peridotite bodies of Alpe Arami, Balmuccia, Baldissero and Finero in the Alps, the lamproites and the Ronda peridotite body in Spain, the kimberlites of Greenland, to the alkaline rocks of Serbia, Makedonia and Turkey and to the Bakony-Balaton Highland Volcanic Field, Hungary.
