Manuscript submission guidelines

For all persons to whom an oral presentation is allotted, the submission of a manuscript for the proceedings volume is mandatory. Authors of poster presentations are also encouraged to submit a manuscript. The proceedings volume will be published as a supplementary hard cover issue of the international journal LITHOS, as for the 8IKC, with full text access online as well.

Manuscripts will be handled by on-line submission only; paper submission is not possible. Manuscripts must be submitted through the regular LITHOS electronic submission system (ess) which can be found at:

On this site, either:
Select "register" from the bar at the top of the page to obtain a user name and password only if you have never before registered with the elsevier on-line submission system. or

(2) Select "log in" from the bar at the top of the page to proceed to the "author main menu".

On the "Author Main Menu" - select "Submit New manuscript" and then select article type "Special Issue: IKC9". This is important, otherwise you may submit your manuscript to a regular issue!

Manuscripts should follow the guide for Lithos authors, details of which can be found at:

In addition, because of the high number of submissions expected, 9IKC contributions will have a length limit of 7,000 words and 10 display items (figures and tables). The figures should be black and white but exemption can be made for the use of colours. A word count and the number of display items should be given on the cover page. Additional figures and tables may be included as on-line files that will not appear in the printed version. Shortened versions of long tables may be included in the manuscript, where full-length tables are included as an electronic appendix.

The on-line submission system for the conference volumes will be opened on Tuesday 1st July 2008, and the deadline for submissions is Sunday, 28th September 2008, after which the on-line submission portal will close.
